São Tomé and Príncipe Island

The exotic and beautiful islands of São Tomé and Principe close to the equator, is part of a volcano chain featuring striking rock and coral formations, rainforests and beaches. Like no other islands in the Atlantic Ocean, Sao Tome seems to embody a kind of lush tropical paradise a bio-diverse jungle preserve, covers much of São Tomé and is distinguished by Pico Cão Grande, a skyscraper like volcanic rock. The atmosphere here is palpably luxurious and it is an intoxicating blend of sunlight, sea, air and fantastically abundant vegetation. These islands are a haven for plant enthusiasts: about 28 percent of the country is forest, of which 44 percent is primary rain forest. There are more than 130 species of plants and 28 species of birds that you won’t find anywhere else. There is also home to more than 150 types of tree ferns and at least 129 orchid species.

Ilhéu das Rôlas Island

It is one of the smaller islands of São Tomé and Príncipe. The islet is located near the north coast of the island of São Tomé, 8 km north of the city of São Tomé. Flora and fauna dominates the island. The island has fauna including birds and some other animals as the islet was once part of the nearby island in the Late Ice Age. Also marine fauna surrounds the islet, one of them founded in the islet is the sea snail, the rock snail species Muricopsis hernandezi.

Ilhéu Caroço

The islet is located southeast of the island of Príncipe. The total area is 0,4 km² .

Wholly the islet is mountainous and elevates to 305 meters and the entire terrain is completely forested, it is considered being the highest islet in São Tomé and Príncipe. During the Ice Age, its elevation was over 400 meters. The island it not inhabited by humans. Fauna dominate the island, the dominant are just birds and of the sea including fishes and crustaceans.

Ilhéu das Rolas

Ilhéu das Rolas is an islet in São Tomé and Príncipe, in Africa. The island lies on the equator, off the southern tip of São Tomé Island separated by Canal das Rolas. It is in the Caué District of São Tomé Province. The island is home to a small resort, the Pestana Equador.

São Tomé

This island and smaller nearby islets make up São Tomé Province, which is divided into six districts. It rises to 2,024 metres (6,640 feet) at Pico de São Tomé and includes the capital city, São Tomé, on the northeast coast. The nearest city on mainland Africa is the port city of Port Gentil in Gabon located 240 kilometres (150 miles) to the east.
