The exotic and beautiful islands of São Tomé and Principe close to the equator, is part of a volcano chain featuring striking rock and coral formations, rainforests and beaches. Like no other islands in the Atlantic Ocean, Sao Tome seems to embody a kind of lush tropical paradise a bio-diverse jungle preserve, covers much of São Tomé and is distinguished by Pico Cão Grande, a skyscraper like volcanic rock. The atmosphere here is palpably luxurious and it is an intoxicating blend of sunlight, sea, air and fantastically abundant vegetation. These islands are a haven for plant enthusiasts: about 28 percent of the country is forest, of which 44 percent is primary rain forest. There are more than 130 species of plants and 28 species of birds that you won’t find anywhere else. There is also home to more than 150 types of tree ferns and at least 129 orchid species.
